Fun Facts

·      Hitchcock bought the rights to Robert Block’s novel, Psycho, for only $9,000. He then bought up all of the remaining copies so it would not ruin the movie’s famous plot twist.


·      Hitchcock filmed this movie when his plans to film No Bail for the Judge starring Audrey Hepburn fell through.


·      Disneyland refused to let Hitchcock film there during the early 1960’s because he made “that disgusting movie, ‘Psycho’.”


·   Marion's white 1957 Ford sedan is the same car (owned by Universal) that the Cleaver family drove on Leave It to Beaver.


·   Vera Miles wore a wig for her role as she had to shave her head for a role in the film 5 Branded Women


·   The Bates house was largely modeled on an oil painting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The canvas is called "House by the Railroad" and was painted in 1925 by American iconic artist Edward Hopper. The film only cost $800,000 to make, but grossed over $40 Million.


·      Filmed in 30 days


·      The blood in the shower was chocolate syrup.


·   The stabbing scene in the shower is reported to have taken seven days to shoot using 70 different camera angles but only lasts 45 seconds in the movie.
